Legacies boss hints at return of another massive Vampire Diaries character

It’s definitely not the last we’ve heard of him…”

Legacies creator Julie Plec has teased the return of a huge Vampire Diaries character.

The CW series returned for its second season earlier this week, and was jam-packed with references to one of TVD’s most memorable characters.

The Vampire Diaries spin-off has brought some familiar faces back to Mystic Falls (like Jeremy Gilbert, Matt Donavan and Jo Parker).

But it looks like another may be showing up back in town soon enough…

WARNING: The rest of this story contains spoilers for season two, episode one, of Legacies.

I’ll Never Give Up Hope sees Josie and Lizzie learning more about The Merge, as Alaric tells them about the prison world holding Kai Parker – the villain who killed Josie and Lizzie’s mum, Jo.

He was the one who was stuck in the 1994 prison world with Bonnie and Damon, and who – much, much later – was behind linking Elena and Bonnie’s lives.

He was permanently banished and imprisoned in the 2018 Prison World, with the Ascendant acting as the lock-and-key.

The twins’ Merge is growing closer and closer, and after Josie referenced her uncle Kai…could it be that one of the twins goes to the only other living member of the Gemini Coven for answers?

Following the episode, Julie Plec said that they will “keep laying little Kai Parker Easter eggs” due, in part, to his massive role in Josie and Lizzie’s backstory.

She told TV Line:

“He is a massive part of the twins’ backstory and mythology, which is something we plan on telling stories from for the entire series.

“While I know we’ll never be able to get Chris Wood back for an entire series, it’s certainly fun to keep him alive in the hopes that we’ll get to see him in small doses over the course of the run of the show.”
