Why is there no Love Island on Saturday?

Mind = blown?

Or at least mildly fractured.

Love Island 2021 is well underway, and although it may have been a slow enough start, it seems as if things are finally starting to pick up in the villa.

It was all kicking off this week and we were delighted for it, finally having something to sit around and numb our minds with every single day.

Every day, that is, except for Saturday.

For the past few years now, the show has been on every day of the week except for Saturdays where there’s a recap show instead.

But why is this? we hear you cry. Surely the contestants have conversations worth broadcasting on Saturdays too? What happens?

Well, according to former winner Kem Cetinay, a whole lot because Saturday is the contestants’ day off where they literally – get this – go to the beach.

Yeah, honestly.

Speaking to Phil and Holly on This Morning in 2019, the former winner of the dating show said that on Saturdays, the cleaning team come into the villa to give it a spruce while all of the contestants go out to the beach for the day.

The only issue is they’re not allowed to discuss anything that could be used on TV.

“You get one day a week. Because, what happens is, it gives them a day to clean the villa,” Kem explained. “And they take their mics off and normally they head to the beach, and just chill out.

“What happens is, when you take your mics off, you’re not allowed to talk about anything to do with the show, or the couples.”

“You’ve got to talk about home life. You’re being watched like a hawk – by the producers – because they don’t want you to talk about what’s going on.”

Phil asked whether the contestants were allowed to sit with people they’re not coupled up with. Just tell us the logistics man, c’mon.

“You can all sit and chat, but they are quite careful with what you talk about,” he said. “Because they want everyone at home to see and get it on video.

“But at the same time, it’s their day to clean the villa, get everything done, and give you a day off. It’s your time to relax.”

What we wouldn’t give to see those chats.

Love Island continues on Sunday on Virgin Media One.
