The Scream Queens actress was so shocked when someone commented saying: “Reported rapes are the only rapes that count,” that she took to the platform again to share her thoughts on the issue. In an amazingly brave response, Abigail shared her own personal experience of the issue, saying: “I did not report my rape. I didn’t report it because of many reasons. “I didn’t want to view myself as a ‘victim’… I feared not being believed… and I didn’t want to put my family through that. “I still have flashbacks. I still get nightmares, I still jump when somebody touches me unexpectedly, even if it’s my best friend tapping me on the shoulder.”
The post has been liked over 12,000 times and has received hundreds of comments praising Abigail’s powerful message. “To say that rapes reported are the only rapes that count, contributes to the ideology that survivors of unreported rape don’t matter,” she continued. “It’s unfair, untrue and unhelpful. Unreported rapes count. Reported rapes count. End of the story.”
