‘All rapes count. End of story’: Abigail Breslin hits back at online trolls

Orlaith Condon

Abigail Breslin bravely took on Instagram trolls this week after she received some unsettling comments on a recent post.

The 21-year-old actress shared an infographic on her Instagram page yesterday which highlighted some of the shocking statistics around rape in America.

According to the RAINN statistics posted, out of every 1,000 rape cases, 994 perpetrators will walk free.

For every 1,000 rapes, only 310 of those victims will come forward to report it, and only six of those assailants will actually be imprisoned.

Abigail shared the truly shocking image to her half a million followers online, but it seems that not everyone was willing the accept the facts.

#knowthefacts.

The Scream Queens actress was so shocked when someone commented saying: “Reported rapes are the only rapes that count,” that she took to the platform again to share her thoughts on the issue.

In an amazingly brave response, Abigail shared her own personal experience of the issue, saying:

“I did not report my rape. I didn’t report it because of many reasons.

“I didn’t want to view myself as a ‘victim’… I feared not being believed… and I didn’t want to put my family through that.

“I still have flashbacks. I still get nightmares, I still jump when somebody touches me unexpectedly, even if it’s my best friend tapping me on the shoulder.”

*trigger warning*

The post has been liked over 12,000 times and has received hundreds of comments praising Abigail’s powerful message.

“To say that rapes reported are the only rapes that count, contributes to the ideology that survivors of unreported rape don’t matter,” she continued.

“It’s unfair, untrue and unhelpful. Unreported rapes count. Reported rapes count. End of the story.”
