It’s fair to say our national obsession with Room To Improve is back with a vengeance.
Last night, we met Dave and Susie, who were building their dream home in Fermoy.
But if we thought this series’ glamour was going to be left with Daniel and Majella O’Donnell in episode one last week, we were very much mistaken.
It’s anything but a dog’s life for Gem. #RoomToImprove pic.twitter.com/Ng0NkdgBBC

The couple had big ideas for the place, including a spa, a jacuzzi and a door just for the dog.
As the build went on, the budget climbed and climbed and us all being Irish, we all had a small stroke at home.
The finished house was stunning, no question about it, but the show left viewers mulling over whether we’re big enough as a nation to overcome our inherent begrudgery and actually (this is big) be happy for them.
”What is the best thing about this house?
I think it’s Dave and Susie. They are the house. They are the energy.”#RoomToImprove pic.twitter.com/SFHWUqcH8Q

Some folks watching thought the couple got a bit carried away with themselves and just couldn’t get past it.
One word for this episode of #RoomToImprove tonight… Notions. Absolute, pure notions.

I tuned in late. Did this couple win the lotto, or rob a bank??! #RoomtoImprove

Unsurprisingly no mention of a final budget #roomtoimprove

It’s not begrudgery folks. It’s why the fuck is there a hotel spa on the side of your house. #roomtoimprove

Hope the show comes back to the more realistic home owner, not building new homes for half a million
Absolutely love @DermotBannon and always amazed by his work

But others thought they were dead right to spend big and were very quick to admonish the eye-rollers on Twitter.
I’d say They are scrolling through Twitter right now in their spa, laughing at all of us in our mortgaged to our bollix show boxes with the Sun night fear for work in the morn while they have an aul swim in the pool tomor morn!!!#roomtoimprove

I’m not surprised at the snide comments on the #RoomToImprove hashtag but they made their money and they can spend it as they please. If I had the cash, I’d do it myself.

Love that Dave & Susie have worked hard for their dream home. Why shouldn’t they build it whatever way they want to? The begrudgery on Twitter tonight is ridiculous #RoomToImprove
