WATCH: The first trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 is here

Jade Hayden

Blessed be the trailer.

The first trailer for The Handmaid’s Tale season four is here, finally giving us a reason to look forward to the future.

The eagerly anticipated fourth instalment of the Margaret Atwood novel adaptation will continue to follow June on her quest to overthrow Gilead, save her fellow handmaids from sexual oppression, and finally be reunited with her daughter.

Last season left audiences on a bit a cliffhanger as June was discovered by a group of Marthas in the woods, injured and dreaming of her life before with Hannah and Luke.

Having just successfully rescued a plane filled with children from Gilead, technically June’s mission is over. Or, as the new trailer released today suggests, it’s just beginning.

Not a whole lot can be deciphered from the trailer that audiences couldn’t have already guessed, but we do know that Hannah and Luke are together again, the Waterfords are being held accountable for their actions, and June is continuing to rise up against Gilead.

“Change never comes easy,” she says in the trailer. “This war isn’t going to win itself” – giving us a mere taste of what is to come in the new season, sure to be filled with mayhem, betrayals, and Elisabeth Moss being a total and inevitable badass.

Moss told Entertainment Tonight rather vaguely last year that June may be escaping Gilead a lot sooner than anticipated.

“I think it’s time…” she said, and we’d have a tendency to agree, yeah.

Season four of the Handmaid’s Tale is due to air in 2021. You can check out the full trailer here:
