WATCH: The trailer for Ian Somerhalder’s Netflix series V Wars is here and it is seriously intense

Keeley Ryan

The Vampire Diaries‘ Ian Somerhalder becomes the hunter in the first trailer for his new Netflix series, V Wars.

The TV series follows Dr. Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) as he enters a world of untold horror when a mysterious disease transforms his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), into a murderous predator who feeds on other humans.

As the disease spreads and more people are transformed, society fractures into opposing camps pitting normal people against the growing number of these “vampires.”

Swann races against time to understand what’s happening, while Fayne rises to become the powerful underground leader of the vampires.

The 10-episode first season will be landing on December 5 – just in time for Christmas. In the meantime, you can check out the trailer below.

The actor recently told Schön! magazine (via JustJared) how he had turned down the show three times – before his wife, Nikki Reed, encouraged him to say yes.

“I said no like three different times. It just didn’t seem like the right move to dial into another vampire show…Once I dove into the books and the comics, I realised the level of I.T. and science in the story,” he said. “V-Wars isn’t about supernaturals, it’s more about science and society, about relationships and love. It deals with the stuff that we’re all dealing with now: borders, racism, medicine, food, security.”

He also revealed why he decided to take on another vampire show so soon after the end of The Vampire Diaries.

“After playing Damon for so many years – the fun, sexy, kind of crazy, very dangerous, very self-centred vampire – I wanted to play someone who was very human,” he explained. “His only superpower is just being a dad, being a great doctor.”

However, if you’re looking for more information about what’s going to be arriving on Netflix in the coming weeks, you can find the list of November additions here.
