Aldi is going one step further to promote sustainable fishing

It matters.

Love a bit of smoked salmon? Or hake your meal of choice when you’re at a restaurant?

But have you ever thought about the process of your fishing coming from the sea and landing on your plate?

Aldi has just announced that it has partnered up with Ocean Disclosure Project to help promote sustainable fishing. Aldi Ireland published a seafood disclosure, which contained a list of the fisheries from which it sourced seafood for its own-label wild-caught seafood products in 2018, alongside information on fishery management, catch method, and environmental impact.

Being transparent about this is so important if we all want to reduce the impact our food choices have on the world.

Commenting John Curtin, Group Buying Director at Aldi Ireland said: “At Aldi we are always striving to improve our sustainability and reduce the impact that our products have on the environment.

“We are delighted to be a part of the ODP and will continue to work towards ensuring all of the fish and seafood in our own-label products is sustainable.”
