Congratulations!

Aldi Ireland has been voted as Ireland’s Most Eco-Friendly Company of the year.

The big win was awarded to the grocery retailer at the Checkout National FMCG Awards, which took place earlier this week at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin.

The lunchtime event was hosted Irish broadcaster and Newstalk presenter Ivan Yates and a total of 23 awards were presented on the day.

The awards acknowledge excellence in new product development, best-in-class merchandising and sales support, innovation in advertising and marketing, and effective sponsorship campaigns by retailers and suppliers.

Aldi put a lot of effort into becoming more sustainable in this year alone. It announced new packaging pledges – committing to ensure that 100 percent of its own label packaging will be recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2022.

It also wants to achieve a 50 percent reduction in packaging across its own-label products by 2025.

This is combined with the retailer’s work to reduce food waste by partnering with the social enterprise FoodCloud, donating over 1.5 million meals to charity.

A deserved win!
