Aldi’s bestselling €3 crispy halloumi fries are back and we’ll take 40 boxes, thanks

A delicious and life-altering food.

Anna O'Rourke

Never eaten halloumi? You’ve never lived, my friend.

This squeaky white cheese may not sound or even look especially appetising but it is one of those foods that will change the way you think about the world and about your own existence.

A traditional Cypriot delicacy, it’s made a big impact on these shores in the past few years.

Halloumi has popped up on menus in all kinds of eateries, even pushing out portobello mushrooms to become the go-to filling for vegetarian burgers in restaurants.

The best way to eat halloumi, in our opinion, is in strips covered in a crispy coating so we are buzzing that Aldi has brought back its super popular halloumi fries.

The Specially Selected Golden & Crispy Halloumi Fries are, according to Aldi, “made with scrumptiously soft – and salty – halloumi cheese from Cyprus and a lightly seasoned coating making them the perfect side or snack for sharing.”

Despite their name, they don’t really resemble actual chips in any real way besides shape but you won’t care because they are truly better than any chip you’ve ever had.

A bold claim, but one we’ll stand over. These lads are delicious.

The fries sparked a frenzy when they first appeared in Aldi last year, selling out in stores around the UK.

The supermarket giant even had to limit the amount of boxes customers could buy to ensure everyone got the opportunity to taste these slivers of heaven.

“Halloumi is very popular right now and we are delighted to be the first supermarket to bring our customers halloumi fries, a snack we think will be a big hit this summer and which isn’t currently available from any other supermarkets,” Aldi UK buyer Julie Ashfield said at the time.

The fries are in stores now for €2.99 per box. GO!
