Almonds and cashews are actually way healthier than you thought they were

Olivia Hayes

We’re on board with this.

If you’re on a healthier buzz at the moment but still want something to munch on in work when you hit that 4pm slump then nuts are a great option.

They’re way healthier than a bag of crisps or sweets or chocolate and will keep you going until dinner comes around. Whatever your nut of choice is, it turns out that one of our favourite ones, almonds, are actually much more healthy than people first thought they were.

According to Women’s Health, in 2012 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that almonds have 20 percent less calories in them.

The research was updated in 2016 and again in 2017 and found that one ounce of almonds have 126 calories in them as oppose to 160 calories which is what people originally thought.

To further that, a study from 2018 found that cashews actually have less calories in them, too.

According to the health journal Nutrients, the study states that they have 16 percent less calories going from 163 calories to 137.

The article also states that many food companies still haven’t updated their calorie counts in foods that contain almonds and cashews, however, now that we know they have fewer calories in them, we’ll keep munching away.
