CBD-infused Ben and Jerry’s could soon be here

Half baked, wha?

Have you tried CBD oil yet?

The stuff is everywhere – and could soon be in your tub of ice-cream.

Ben and Jerry’s has revealed that it wants to get on board the CBD trend.

The company is working to make ice-cream infused with the oil, which is an extract of the cannabis plant.

On its website, Ben and Jerry’s shared research from the US National Restaurant Association which showed that 75 per cent of chefs said CBD was one of the biggest food trends right now.

“You probably already know that we’re fans of all things groovy – think: Half Baked and Dave Matthews Band Magic Brownies,” it said.

“So it’s no surprise that we can’t wait to get into the latest food trend: cannabidiol, or CBD.”

There is a snag, though – the US Food and Drug Administration hasn’t made it legal to sell CBD-infused foods.

“We are committed to bringing CBD-infused ice cream to your freezer as soon as it’s legalized at the federal level,” Ben and Jerry’s continued.

The FDA yesterday opened a hearing on the issue.

Dozens of producers, business owners, experts and advocates made their case to the agency, which will decide whether to approve CBD for use in food and drink.

The drug has exploded in popularity in the past few years.

There are claims that it can treat everything from chronic pain, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease to anxiety and depression.
