Coca Cola is about to launch its first alcoholic drink.

The beverage giant is keen to cash in on the popularity of alcopops… in Japan. So, it might be a while until it reaches our green shores.

But we’re definitely interested to try it.

Chu-Hi (canned sparkling flavoured drinks mixed with a local spirit called shochu) is on the rise over in Japan, and Coca-Cola is planning on trying out its first alcoholic drink over there.

The product is typically between 3 percent and 8 percent in alcohol.

Senior Coke executive in Japan, Jorge Garduno said: “We haven’t experimented in the low alcohol category before, but it’s an example of how we continue to explore opportunities outside our core areas.”

It is said that Chu-Hi is an alternative to beer over in the country, and it has become majorly popular with women.

However, as the world gets increasingly health-conscious, alcohol isn’t the only thing that the company is cashing in on.

Recently, Coca-Cola bought a number of water and tea brands, so you never know… we could be drinking tea-flavoured Coke in the next few years.
