Class! Turns out we should be drinking chocolate milk after hitting the gym

Jade Hayden

Unreal.

If you’re all about hitting up the gym and focusing on Dem Gainz, you’ll probably be more than a bit familiar with post recovery workout drinks.

Drink them and you’ll get a load of protein, feel better, and probably get some defined abs or whatever.

Stunning.

As it turns out though, post recovery drinks might not actually do much more for our bodies than, say, other liquids like smoothies, cereals, and even chocolate milk.

Yeah, genuinely.

A new study conducted by Shahid Sadoughi University in Yazd, Iran, showed that chocolate milk has the same effects as many post recovery work out drinks – if not even better ones.

Research showed that people who drank chocolate milk were able to work out for six minutes longer.

The sweet, dairy drink was also proven to improve heart rates and lactic acid levels, which lessened the chance of cramp.

Ideal.

This result is due to the fact that chocolate milk contains carbohydrates, proteins and fats – which are all fairly handy when you’re looking to encourage some decent post-exercise recovery.

Although further research is needed to truly, definitively say that chocolate milk is the best thing going when it comes to working out, researchers are fairly confident that they’re onto something.

Study author Dr Amin Salehi-Abargouei said:

“Chocolate milk contains carbohydrates, proteins, fats, flavonoids, electrolytes, and some vitamins which make this drink a good choice for recovery in athletes.

“The take-home message is that chocolate milk is a low-cost, delicious and palatable option for recovery and provides either similar or superior effects compared with commercial drinks.”

Absolutely ideal, like.
