Deliveroo and Burger King introduce The Rebel Patty – the delish vegetarian Whopper alternative

Olivia Hayes

It’s finally here.

After major success in the US, Burger King’s vegetarian alternative of the Whopper has finally hit Ireland.

The new patty, called The Rebel Patty, contains no beef whatsoever and is made of sustainable soy, wheat, vegetable oil, herbs and onion.

The burger also features a savoury flame-grilled patty made from plants topped with juicy tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, crunchy pickles, and sliced white onions on a soft sesame seed bun. YUM.

You don’t have to wait for it either, as it’s available to order on Deliveroo from midday today.

Joe Groves at Deliveroo said: “Whether you’re looking to reduce your intake of red meat or just want to challenge those taste buds – the new Rebel Whopper from Burger King is ready for you to try!”

Deliveroo has seen a massive influx of vegetarian orders throughout the last year. Plant based orders are up by 76 percent – but it’s not just by vegetarians and vegans. Many people are considering themselves flexitarians these days by opting for plant-based meals to cut down on their intake of meat – both for health and environmental reasons.

Just to note however, The Rebel Patty is vegetarian but not vegan as there is mayonnaise included in the build up of the burger.
