Smashing: Giant ‘Avozillas’ are back in Tesco from today

Jade Hayden

How much avo is too much avo?

The question we will ask ourselves this weekend as we stand, anticipatory, over a basket of aptly named ‘Avozillas’, wondering what in God’s name we could possibly need one for.

The short answer is that we don’t.

The long answer is that an Avozilla could very much be the catalyst needed to finally turn our lives around for the better – and we’ll do anything to ensue that we get our hands on one.

Or, you know, just go pick one up in Tesco today (Friday, August 28) for four quid. Standard.

The Avozilla, so-called due to its enormous size, made food-based waves in 2018 when it landed in Tesco for the first time.

The fruit, which is five times the size of a regular avocado (!), is a cross between two types of avocado; the West Indian and Guatemalan varieties.

Avozillas are naturally produced and not genetically modified in any way – but they are extremely rare, so if you were looking to pick one up, you might want to get down to your local Tesco early enough this Friday  to avail of one.

There’s only a limited supply, after all.

John Brennan, Category Director for Fresh Food, Tesco Ireland said: “We’re delighted to confirm that the Avozillas are back by popular demand in select Tesco stores.

“The Avozillas are available in stores from tomorrow (Friday) and there’s a limited number so we’d suggest customers pick them up if they see them this weekend.”
