The traditional wedding cake is getting a huge makeover for 2018, according to Pinterest.
Brides and grooms are moving away from “towering behemoths” with tiers of vanilla, chocolate, or even red velvet, to more fruit-centric and minimalistic designs.
And it looks like people looking to say ‘I do’ are really keen about the idea of a fig cake.
In their Wedding Report 2018, Pinterest said that searches for fig cakes have gone up by over 500 per cent.

The fig cake, with its simple white icing, is often seen as being more bohemian, earthy and casual alternative to a traditional cake.
Most of the desserts that are featured on Pinterest are decorated with actual figs, as well as other fruits, which would make it the perfect cake for a laid-back, nature-inspired nuptials.
But that’s not the only changes soon-to-be newlyweds are making to their wedding cakes.

Couples are also searching for ways to add a bit more gold or silver on their wedding day, incorporating metallic decorations into their cake

The third and final of the wedding cake trends for the year is minimal, white frosting.
The low-key (but incredibly elegant) design have already proven to be a huge hit, with searches up by 235 per cent.
