Here’s a boozy spiced rum hot chocolate recipe that’ll really hit the spot tonight

Jade Hayden

Sweet and spicy.

Just what you need to curb the Sunday night fear, wha?

We’re well into December now guys, and if that simple fact means anything, it’s that we are allowed to have a casual nightcap before bed.

It’s a casual one. It’s grand.

Alas, it being the depths of winter means that having a ice-cold one doesn’t really make all that sense, because it’s cold.

So why not have a hot chocolate with a bit of rum instead.

G’wan. You deserve it.

You will need (serves two):

  • 4 shots rum (Kraken black spiced rum or Captain Morgan’s spiced rum will work a treat)
  • 2 cup of milk/low-fat milk
  • 200g milk chocolate
  • 2 tps cinnamon
  • 2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 tbsp peanut butter (or, indeed, almond butter)
  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings/sprinkles/whatever

And here’s how you make it:

1. Melt the chocolate by combining it with the milk in a saucepan on a low/medium heat. Add the peanut butter, the cinnamon and nutmeg, and stir until smooth.

2. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.

3. Stir in the rum, tasting as you go, and pour into two glasses. Squirt on some whipped cream, throw on your sprinkles, and away you go.

Have a nice night, yeah?
