Take note.
Batches of hummus sold in Aldi and Lidl have been recalled due to the presence of salmonella.
The products are being recalled by Zorba Delicacies and include Aldi’s The Deli brand and Lidl’s Meadow Fresh brand.
The batches have been deemed unsafe to eat.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued the recall today and urged customers not to eat the affected batches.
The products include:
- Aldi Deli Brand Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack (3x60g). Use by date: 3/11/2019.
- Aldi Reduced Fat Houmous Selection Triple Pack (3x60g) . Use by dates: 2/11/2019 and 3/11/2019.
- Aldi Deli brand Basil Houmous topped with Pesto and Parmesan (170g). Use by date: 4/11/2019.
- Lidl Meadow Fresh brand Red Pepper Houmous (170g). Use by date: 6/11/2019.
- Lidl Meadow Fresh brand Classic Houmous stacker (3x60g). Use by date: 6/11/2019.
“People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours,” said the FSAI.
“The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.
“The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.”
