Ikea has just announced it’s making a vegan version of its Swedish meatballs

Yes, yes, yes.

We all know about the Swedish meatballs from Ikea. We look at them as a treat for walking around, looking at lamps and couches and tables and chairs for literal hours on end.

Either way, they are seen as the light at the end of a very long, blue and yellow tunnel.

While Ikea does vegan balls, they’re just not the same as the Swedish meatballs, but that’s all about to change. Ikea has announced that it is going to introduce vegan meatballs that will taste just about the same as the real deal.

According to Metro, the new vegan meatballs will be created with a plant-based alternative protein, made in collaboration with a few leading suppliers of vegan protein in the industry.

It’s currently in the taste test stages of the creation but Ikea plan on introducing them globally once they’re ready so you’ll be able to travel to the Dublin store to get your hands on them.

In a press release, managing director at Ikea Food Services Michael La Cour said:

“Looking at the quality of the products that we have been tasting I am looking forward to serve a delicious plant based meatball made from alternative protein at Ikea.

“We know that the Ikea meatballs are loved by the many people and for years the meatballs have been the most popular dish in our restaurants. We see a growing demand from our customers to have access to more sustainable food options and we want to meet that need.

“Our ambition is to make healthier and more sustainable eating easy, desirable and affordable without compromising on taste and texture.”

The company is looking at a release date of 2020, so by this time next year you could be munching on some glorious Swedish vegan meatballs in Dublin.
