It’s 2016 And You Can Now Buy Pre-Halved Avocados

We don't know what to make of this

Ellen Tannam

Avocados are one of the most popular foods in the world right now.

You only have to scroll through the food tags on Instagram to be bombarded with images of the delicious green fruit adorning all sorts of intricate meals.

Some people though, have a bit of a gripe with how quickly avocados spoil, and find it hard to tell when the fruit is ripe (clue: the skin should be a glossy dark green and the little brown butt at the bottom should not have fallen off.)

One Canadian supermarket has decided to remedy this avocado ripening mystery situation by selling them pre-halved in what looks like a fairly excessive amount of packaging.

Many people have also made the point that pre-packaged food makes things easier for people who find food preparation difficult because of physical impairments, which is a fair point.

However, we don’t know if the massive box is necessary.
