Lidl issue URGENT recall on popular product due to ‘elevated levels’ of ingredient

If you have these tucked away in your kitchen, bring them back immediately.

Lidl and the FSAI have issued urgent recalls on a popular snacking project.

Snack Day Sweet Popcorn, which is sold in its stores nationwide, was recently found to have “elevated level of tropane alkaloids.”

Yep, we were confused by what that was too, so we looked it up.

Apparently, it’s “a class of bicyclic [3.2.1] alkaloids and secondary metabolites that contain a tropane ring in their chemical structure. Tropane alkaloids occur naturally in many members of the plant family Solanaceae.”

Yep, still none the wiser, but basically too much of it is bad for you.

A message of the FSAI website reads: “Lidl Ireland is recalling the above two batches of Snack Day Sweet Popcorn due to an elevated level of tropane alkaloids.

“The implicated product was on sale in Lidl Ireland stores from 7th May.

“Lidl has issued an in-store notice requesting customers who have bought this product to return it to a Lidl store.”

“The affected product – pack size 200g – has a best before dates of December 30 and December 31, 2018.”

You will be given a full refund when the product is returned to any Lidl store.
