Research finds eating potatoes on a regular basis could lead to increased blood pressure

Blasphemy.

Shut the front door.

If you’re a big potato fan, then the below research is sure to be of interest (even if we’re not happy about it).

A study, published in the British Medical Journal, claims that eating potatoes four times a week can lead to an increased risk of high blood pressure, also known as hypertension.

According to the information, which Harvard researchers contributed to, the starch included in potatoes changes into sugar which causes a spike in blood sugar levels.

The findings came from three large studies which in total included 187,000 people.

To establish the end result, the researchers compared the wellbeing of those who had eaten potatoes once a week to those who consumed potatoes four times or more a week.

With all three studies, they found that blood pressure was higher for the people who had eaten potatoes more regularly.

The same result didn’t apply to crisps but that could be due to the fact that salt intake wasn’t measured.

We might have to think of some new dinner options…
