Every little helps, etc.

Tesco Ireland has launched a nationwide seven-day food appeal to help those struggling due to Covid-19.

The supermarket chain is appealing for shoppers to donate a food product this week (July 13 – 19) during their weekly shop.

The donations will then be distributed through FoodCloud to local charities and food banks.

To get involved in the food drive, customers can add a non-perishable food item to their food shop, pay for it at the till, and then drop it into one of the dedicated Food Appeal trolleys as they leave the store.

These items could include tea bags, biscuits, breakfast cereals, tinned good, pasta, rice, tea bags, packet soup, canned goods, nuts and seeds.

Kari Daniels, CEO of Tesco Ireland, says that the Covid-19 pandemic has only increased the need for support from local communities.

“With that in mind, we wanted to do more to help and are launching a seven-day Food Appeal in our stores,” she says.

“We will be encouraging our customers to support if they can, by donating one item from their shop, to help people in their communities at this time.”

All items donated this week will be shared with over 130 partner causes from the Tesco Surplus Food Donations Programme in partnership with FoodCloud.

The retailer has worked with the food hub since 2013, redistributing over 11 million meals through its food surplus distribution programme.

This week’s food appeal runs from Monday July 13 to Sunday July 19.
