The best cocktail bar in the world is coming to Cork for one night next month

Ooooh, this sounds fab.

The best cocktail bar in the world is going to be coming to Cork for one night only next month.

The Savoy’s American Bar is not only the oldest cocktail bar in Britain, but one of the most renowned bars in the entire world.

It won the title of World’s Best Bar at Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards in 2018 and was named the World’s Best Bar at World’s 50 Best in 2017.

Now, it will be taking over Cask, in Cork’s Victorian Quarter, on May 1.

The American Bar’s ethos combines innovation, simplicity and glamour to create the classics with a twist, as well as new and vintage creations.

The takeover will be co-hosted alongside Cask’s Andy Ferreira and Carl d’Alton, both having represented Ireland internationally as winners of the World Class Irish Bartender of the Year competition in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

Ferdia Murray of American Bar said:

“I’m so excited to be visiting Cask. It’s one of the best cocktail bars around and I love the renegade, devil-may-care attitude that these guys have shown in their approach and in their creativity.

“It’s going to be a great evening, bringing an element of American Bar to Cask to create something very cool. And the fact that both my parents were born and raised in Cork and went to University College Cork makes our visit to Cask even more exciting.”

On the night, American Bar will be creating some of their favourite drinks from their newly-launched menu, “The Savoy Songbook”.

The menu pays homage to the legendary musicians and songwriters that have entertained guests in the American Bar for decades, with each cocktail created with one of the bar’s most iconic songs in mind.

Drinks will include the Sun Sun Sun, a tribute to the Beatles’ crowd-pleaser Here Comes The Sun which contains Bombay Sapphire Gin, White Créme de Menthe, Orange Blossom, Yuzu Wine, Lime and Egg White.

The #Nomakeup, inspired by Aretha Franklin’s Say A Little Prayer, will also be on the menu. It contains Grey Goose Vodka, Coconut Wine, Spiced Pineapple, Martini Bitter, and Champagne.

Andy Ferreira, manager of Cask, said:

“We’re honoured to welcome the legendary American Bar to Cask. It offers our team an opportunity to work with the best, but also to show one of the best bars in the world how we approach cocktails and more importantly to give them a taste in Irish hospitality which is very unique.”
