This Italian wine is being hailed as 2017’s new prosecco

Is the prosecco craze nearing an end?

While the above might be an exaggeration, with reports of a shortage, it’s probably time we started to seek out other options to fuel our love of bubbles…just in case.

Wine consultant and Forbes writer Nick Passmore, says Italian sparkling wine Trentodoc is way ahead of prosecco when it comes to beverages of the bubble variety.

According to Nick, who has selected some of his favourites here, it’s made using the same “slow, expensive and difficult” method as champagne, which does sound a cut above your average bottle of plonk to be fair.

The Trentino region of Italy, where this wine is made, has steep, rocky slopes and extremely varying temperatures between day and night.

This manages to produce ” low yields of mineral-infused wines packed with vivacious personality” and to be honest, we’re sold.

It’s not as readily available as Prosecco and is significantly more expensive, currently retailing at £20 a bottle in M&S according to Metro.

However, if you’re getting bored of basic bubbles and consider yourself something of a wine connoisseur, Trentodoc is worth checking out.
