The June Bank Holiday is here and workers across the country will be preparing for a much-needed break before the summer rush.
To add to the beauty of a long weekend, Met Eireann’s latest forecast gives us something to smile about with sunshine and clear skies on the way.
Some areas will reach a scorching 25C across the next three days, while others will see slightly cooler conditions and one region is expected to see rain.
According to the Irish forecaster, it will be largely sunny today, “though there will be some cloud at times,” particularly in the north and east at first and in the southwest later on.
Highest temperatures of 21 to 24 degrees are expected over the western half of the country.
Meanwhile, things will be cooler further east – especially near the Irish Sea – with highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees in light to moderate easterly winds.
It will be dry tonight with mostly clear skies, however, some localised fog will develop in light easterly or variable winds and lowest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees are expected.
The forecast overview for the weekend ahead reads: “High pressure will continue to dominate our weather with largely dry conditions and plenty of sunshine.
“Generally mild but a light to moderate east to northeast airflow will keep it coolest close to the Irish Sea.”
Saturday
Saturday will be a dry, warm day with plenty of sunshine, Met Éireann says.
A little cloud will bubble up at times, through the afternoon but the highest temperatures of 18 to 24 degrees are expected.
It’s expected to be “coolest in the east and warmest in the west” – all in a light to moderate easterly breeze.
Conditions will be dry and clear overnight, and temperatures won’t dip below 8 to 12 degrees. Some mist and fog patches will develop in light easterly breezes.
Sunday
Another mostly sunny and dry day with just some patchy cloud at times, but “a stray light shower couldn’t be ruled out in the north,” forecasters warn.
The highest temperatures will range from 18 degrees in the east to 24 or 25 degrees in the west and southwest with light to moderate easterly winds.
Another dry night with mostly clear skies is expected. Temperatures will not fall below 8 to 12 degrees. There’s a possibility of some fog patches developing again in light breezes.
Bank Holiday Monday
Largely dry and sunny, however, clouds will build at times bringing the chance of isolated light showers, most likely in the north.
It’ll be noticeably milder in the east than the previous day as the highest temperatures will range from 19 or 20 degrees in the north and east to 25 degrees in the west and southwest – all in mostly light easterly breezes.
