6 forms of exercise that are actually enjoyable

Rebecca McKnight

Scared of squats? Sick of sprinting.

Us too. But it doesn’t have to be difficult!

Here are six alternative ways to get fit and maybe even have fun doing it.

Let’s dance

There are so many dance classes out there to pick from but Zumba has to be the most popular. It ticks all of the boxes with catchy tunes and great dance moves that tone and help your cardio. In fact, you hardly even notice it’s a workout until you get home and realise that a new design has appeared on parts of your t-shirt and your hair has merged with the back of your neck. Attractive, we know, but so worth it.

In pole position

If you fancy something a little sexier as a workout, try a pole fitness class. Using the slightly frowned-upon tradition of pole dancing, this risqué class helps tone all areas of your body with a number of demanding routines and, occasionally upside-down, poses. As if that’s not enough, it also helps to boost your body confidence and sex appeal. Miao!

Feeling flexible?

For something a little more relaxing but equally effective, opt for yoga or Pilates. The latter has most certainly taken the world by storm in recent months with celebrities including Miley Cyrus jumping on the band wagon. It is said to tone without adding bulk – always a plus!

Spinning Around

With upbeat tunes to keep you motivated and without the threat of helmet hair, the exercise bicycle has replaced the treadmill as the machine of choice. Spinning is a high-intensity class that is capable of burning up to 800 calories in one hour. Cue lots of sweating, swearing and heavy breathing. Warning: this class is not for the light hearted.

Move over Rocky

If a class that combines dance and kicking imaginary butt is something that appeals to you, then boxercise is the fitness class for you this summer. Who’d have thought you could shape up and practise your right hook all in one go? Well you can and it’s great fun. Just make sure you warn you boyfriend about your new found love of punching and his irritating habits.

Bootylicious and abs-olutely fabulous

Bums & Tums is arguably the ultimate bikini-body workout class as it focuses on the two areas that most women are concerned about when it comes to bearing all on the beach. With routines that are aimed at specifically toning the abs and the bum, this class will have you in tiptop shape. Move over Beyonce.
