Seven ways to avoid a bloated tummy

Where there's a will, there's a way!

As much as we wish we could eat whatever the hell we want and not suffer the consequences, it doesn’t really work like that.

There are some foods that worsen the bloat and these are the ones you’ll want to stay away from.

1) Ditch the salt

Salt is the enemy here as it encourages water retention, which will make you look puffy and feel sluggish. Substitute cracked black pepper or different spices and you’ll feel much better!

2) Go for grains

Wholegrain bread is nutritionally superior to white bread and it also helps with your digestion so this is a smart swap. Don’t overload on carbs though as protein-rich foods can be just as filling and more kind to your waistline.

3) Up your water intake… and forget your fizzy drinks!

Carbonated drinks are the worst habit to have as they are full of additives but did you know that they can also leave you tummy looking slightly more rounded than normal? Ditch 7Up and Coca-Cola is you want to beat the bloat and stick to a healthy intake of water instead.

4) Cook from scratch

This goes back to point one. Ready-meals, takeaways and sauces are usually full of hidden salts and sugars so go back to basics and cook your own – your wallet and figure will thank you!

5) Try some tea

Try drinking ginger, peppermint or fennel tea as they’re believed to dispel gas and calm your digestive system.

6) Know what you’re eating

Most of us know that beans can be a contributor to gas and bloating but cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower and Brussells Sprouts can be tricky too so eat them in moderation.

7) Shake a leg

Daily exercise, even 30 minutes per day, is recommended to avoid constipation and keep things moving so there’s no excuse to skip that gym session!
