Study Shows How Your Birth Order Affects Your Weight

Not fair.

We often blame our personality traits on where we come in the family.

Older children are said to be bossier, and of course we’ve all heard of middle child syndrome.

But what we didn’t know is that your birth order can also affect your weight.

New research, published in the British Medical Journal, has shown that older daughters are more likely to be overweight than their younger siblings.

The health data of over 26,000 Swedish women and their sisters was examined for the research which found that while older siblings tended to weigh less at birth, they were 29 per cent more likely to be overweight by the time they were giving birth themselves.

The frustrating part? Nobody knows why as the research was purely observational, but it does emphasise that while a healthy diet and exercise plan is always conducive to weight loss, there are some factors that may be outside of your control when it comes to your waistline.

Go figure.
