3 super simple tricks which can help you fall asleep faster

Keeley Ryan

We’ll try just about anything to get a good night’s sleep.

And even though we’ve all heard that we’re meant to get at least eight hours of sleep a night – well, that can be incredibly tricky. Even on a good day.

With the stresses and strains of modern day-to-day life, even managing to fall asleep easily can be difficult.

Sammy Margo, author of The Good Sleep Guide, told The Mirror some handy tricks and tips that will help you get to sleep – and fast.

The first one being to rewind your day. Remembering everything that happened, but in reverse, will help you clear your mind of any worries.

She explained:

“Recall conversations, sights and sounds as you go. It helps you to reach a mental state that’s ready for sleep.”

If that doesn’t work, try visualising your happy place – especially if its in a  way that uses three senses, which is when it is most effective.

Sammy added:

“Imagine yourself in a situation where you feel content – a tropical paradise, sailing on calm waters, walking in flower fields.

“As you explore your ‘happy place’ imagine smelling flowers, feeling grass or sand under your feet and hearing water lap against the boat. You should soon feel relaxed and drift off.”

The last tip may be the easiest one to do, though: roll your eyes.

Yes, that’s right. Simply shutting your eyes and rolling them up three times can hep you zip off to dreamland.

Sammy said:

“It simulates what you do naturally when you fall asleep and may help trigger the release of your sleepy hormone, melatonin.”
