Doing The Parish Proud: 9 Reasons Your Granny Wanted You To Be In The Rose Of Tralee

No one loves the festival as much as granny does...

Her

The Rose of Tralee festival is in its 55th year, and you can bet that your grandmother hasn’t missed one.

From the dresses and interviews to the party-pieces and escorts, nothing would make your granny happier than to be tuning in to RTÉ on Monday night and seeing you grace the stage.

She would be so excited, she’d be in danger of swallowing her false teeth.

Here are the nine reasons your granny always wanted you to represent your county in the Rose of Tralee.

1. Favouritism

As much as your granny loves all of her grandchildren equally, you’re her favourite.

2. “Wait ’til you hear…”

She wants the opportunity to go down to the Bingo hall and boast to all of her friends about how amazing her granddaughter is.

3. “It’s such a shame”

She tells you every year that you’re better than any girl who has gone on that stage and that “it’s an absolute shame” you’re not up there.

4. She’ll take out the competition…

Anything to see you wearing that crown.

5. She wants the day out.

She knows there’s no sign of you getting married but she still wants to attend a fancy event.

6. You’ll waltz it…

She wants to see you do well so she shares her moves with you.

7. Doing the parish proud

The priest will give you a mention at Sunday mass. She’ll be delira!

8. Can’t wait to see the style

She loves to see “all the style” and the dresses… and the escorts.

9. Three words – Dáithí Ó Sé

She is in love with Dáithí Ó Sé and won’t be happy until she gets the chance to be in the same room (dome) as him.

Aw g’wan, do it for your granny…
