A Dream Come True: Make-A-Wish Ireland Share 9-Year-Old Amelia’s Amazing Story

A touching story of Amelia's journey.

Her

Amelia, 9 from Co. Meath, has a passion for baking and the more colour the better! She watches the very popular Cake Boss on TLC including all the re runs. Amelia’s wish could only be one thing and that was to bake with “Buddy”.

Make-A-Wish®Ireland flew Amelia and her family to New York earlier this month. On arrival they were met in the lobby of the Hyatt Regency and then they boarded a party bus with balloons and headed over to the Lackawanna Facility.

They were given a VIP tour and saw all the different areas: packaging, interview room, refrigerator room (where they keep all the finished cakes), baking room, and finally – the decorating room!

Once there, Buddy the Cake Boss came out to greet the family and took pictures with them.  He chatted away and told them how excited he was that they were there.

Amelia had her own decorating table and decorating assistant to help with her cake. Buddy asked what type of cake and flavour she wanted.

Then the decorating began and Amelia was at work!  She learned how to work with fondant and create shapes, letters, numbers, you name it!  Pizza was ordered for lunch and after a few hours, the decorating was complete, and Amelia and family packed up the cake to bring home to their hotel.

Amelia was given an official Carlo’s Bakery chef coat as well as an autographed cook book and some other goodies! Buddy said goodbye to everyone but not without Amelia giving him lots of Irish treat and goodies. Buddy was very impressed that she remembered everyone including his wife and children and loved his St. Patricks Day hat!!

The next stop was Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken. They were given a short tour (the bakery is very tiny compared to the warehouse!) and then the family were given a box of assorted treats to take with them.Amelia had an “awesome” wish, both she and her family enjoyed every second of it. We think we have our own “Buddy” in the making!! Watch this space!!

Would you like to help grant more wishes like Amelia? Make-A-Wish needs women to run, walk or crawl the Flora Women’s Mini 10K Marathon to help grant magical wishes to children aged 3-17 years, living in Ireland with life threatening medical conditions.

There are over 180 wish children on their waiting list and you can help create special memories and joy for these children, giving them the best days of their life.
