This is the amount of money Irish children get for their Communion

It's A LOT more than we got.

Does this surprise you?

Irish children these days are getting a lot more money than we got when we made our Communion.

According to the 2017 Ulster Bank Communion Survey, children received an average of €570 in gifts for their First Communion this year. It increased slightly from last year, where children received €546 on average.

Even more surprising is that almost one in four children received more than €800, and a small percentage received over €1,000.

It was the boys who got more than the girls with the average received by boys being €591, compared to €550 for girls.

The survey also found that 92percent of parents financed the day through their own savings, with an average of  €845 being spent on their child’s day.

The breakdown of what spent is as follows:

  • Party/ celebrations/ food and drink: €388
  • Child’s outfit for the day: €185
  • Outfits for other family members: €153
  • Children’s entertainment: €78
  • Make-up/ hair (girls only): €41
