Their research concluded that by their five year anniversary, 11 percent of V Day marriages, 10 percent of date perfect marriages and 8 percent of 'ordinary' date marriages were destined to fail.
By their ninth anniversaries, 21 percent of Valentine’s Day marriages and 19 percent of same number date unions were doomed compared to 16 percent of ordinary date weddings.
Speaking about the results, lead researcher, Professor David Ribar said:
“Couples who marry on ordinary dates may be more strongly influenced by characteristics of their relationships and their compatibility than couples who marry on special dates".
