When it comes to choosing a date to get married, there are a lot of factors for you and your partner to consider.

Cost, if people can attend, weather, venues - these are just some of the things that need to be taken into consideration and you'd wonder how people actually manage to come to a decision in the end. Another option is commemorating a special day, such as Valentines' Day or a numerically perfect day like 9/9/99, but it's not the best plan of action according to new research. The study, entitled Not Your Lucky Day: Romantically and Numerically Special Wedding Date Divorce Risks was conducted by economists at the University of Melbourne with the data including in excess of one million marriages. The results compiled by the research team found that these are extremely popular wedding dates, with up to five times as many as 'ordinary' wedding days. Their research concluded that by their five year anniversary, 11 percent of V Day marriages, 10 percent of date perfect marriages and 8 percent of 'ordinary' date marriages were destined to fail. By their ninth anniversaries, 21 percent of Valentine’s Day marriages and 19 percent of same number date unions were doomed compared to 16 percent of ordinary date weddings. Speaking about the results, lead researcher, Professor David Ribar said:

“Couples who marry on ordinary dates may be more strongly influenced by characteristics of their relationships and their compatibility than couples who marry on special dates".
