Collette Moreno was travelling to her hen party celebrations when she was involved in a fatal car accident.
The 26-year-old Missouri mum-of-one and her best friend, Ashley Theobald, were heading for a weekend away at the Lake of the Ozarks when the car Theobald was driving collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Eight minutes before the crash, the bride-to-be snapped this selfie of the pair (above) as they listened to Taylor Swift without a care in the world.
In an interview with Fox 4 Kansas City, Theobald explained how they were caught behind a truck omitting fumes that caused her asthmatic friend Moreno to begin coughing and so she decided to overtake.
“She has really bad asthma and there were a few trucks in front of us that had really bad exhausts and she was coughing, so I was like, ‘OK, we have to pass these’”.
Theobald overtook the traffic as she unknowingly approached a hill and the car was met by a pick-up truck, driven by a 25-year-old man. Both drivers attempted to swerve to avoid collision but the car was struck on the passenger side.
Moreno, who was due to marry fiancé Jesse Arcobasso (28) in Jamaica on July 26th, was taken to a Columbia hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Theobald was also taken to hospital but escaped with minor injuries.
“I was talking to her. She couldn’t talk back but she was nodding at me,” Theobald told the news station. “I didn’t know it was as bad as it was, because she wasn’t physically super beaten-up”.
