Buy A Bottle! Red Wine Can Help Heal Your Acne
We all remember the genius research that there are health benefits to wine after exercise, but the next revelation might be just the reason to stop off and buy a bottle of red on the way home.
The only thing is, you won’t be drinking it.
According to new research published in the Journal of Dermatology and Therapy, researchers tested whether resveratrol, the primary antioxidant found in red wine, could be an effective treatment for acne.
The study looked to prive that since resveratrol has antimicrobial properties, it might help fight the bacteria associated with breakouts.
The research team incubated samples of the bacteria which breeds acne, along with small amounts of resveratrol and benzoyl peroxide (a common ingredient found in acne facial washes.)
The study found that the resveratrol (red wine bacteria) kept the acne bacteria from growing in the long term, while the benzoyl peroxide killed the cells in the short term. Therefore, they concluded, the combination of the two shows the most promise for acne treatment.
So, while we wouldn’t be quite sure about splashing red wine on your face for an instantly improved complexion, a sip or two to further scientific research is of course part of your duty as a woman.
