Fascinating Video Explains Why Donating Canned Food Isn’t *Really* That Helpful

The more you know!

During the festive season, sometimes our minds can turn towards those less fortunate than us who might be struggling to pay bills, mortgages or even feed their families. We feel lucky and privileged because of what we have.

So you think, what can I, one person do to help? How about donating some canned food to a local food drive?Apparently this isn’t as helpful as it seems, as is explained in this video by AdamRuinsEverything.

First of all, we tend to use food drives as a way to get rid of food that we have had lying around for a while, (kidney beans anyone?).

Secondly, someone has to transport and sort through all of the cans, and canned food doesn’t really have a lot of nutritional value in general.

The best way to donate is to give money directly to charities and foodbanks, so they can buy fresh food for those in need.
