Food High Five – Five Reasons Kale Is Good For You

This week, we’re looking at kale.

Low calorie count
Kale is very low in terms of calories and has no fat which means it is a great addition to a healthy diet. It is also said to be good for your metabolism.

Good for digestion
As well as fibre, this food contains lots of nutrients and vitamins including magnesium and iron which help to keep your digestive system and liver functioning properly.

Lowers risk of cancer
Like a lot of foods, kale is packed with antioxidants (including carotenoids and flavonoids) which help protect against heart disease and various types of cancers such as colon, prostate and ovarian.

Strengthens immune system
As well as fighting viruses and bacteria, kale has an anti-inflammatory quality and is known for alleviating arthritis, asthma and other autoimmune disorders.

Good for hair, skin and nails
Kale has a good balance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which keeps your hair, skin and nails looking and feeling great.
