Inside the 200-year-old lighthouse converted into a stunning home in Cork

“It’s a place that I fell in love with the minute I walked in, even though it wasn’t in great condition.”

I will never look at a lighthouse the same after seeing the stunning home that this 200 year old one has been turned into. A lighthouse set in one of the most beautiful locations in Ireland, off the coast of Cork that has found Instagram fame thanks to the views and the gorgeous upgrade.

Saoirse Fitzgerald is the lady who’s been documenting the renovation of the old lighthouse which she “fell in love with” the minute she walked in. She’s gained lots of followers with her stylish updates of the place over on Instagram @thelighthousekeepsher.

This week’s episode of Interior Motives brings us into the stunning building and we get to see what Saoirse did to make this landmark a home.

“I bought it 3 years ago and I did a massive renovation project on it, bringing it back to life. It took us about 18 months to complete the renovations and it meant opening up the walls and exposing the view.”

Saoirse says the question she gets asked the most is if the light from the lighthouse keeps her up at night! “There is a lighthouse in the garden. It shines 17km out to sea but it doesn’t shine into the house at all.”

She bought the house just over three years ago, she says: “It’s a place that I fell in love with the minute I walked in, even though it wasn’t in great condition. It just had a real vibe to it that was safe and as if the walls were oozing with history.”

Saoirse who calls herself the lighthouse keeper says her favourite room is the conservatory which has a gorgeous seaview, her inspiration behind decorating this room was “bringing the outside inside. Everything in this room are colours that are reflected in the beauty you see outside. Even own to the windows I chose, I just wanted it to be a similar colour to the sea and frame the sea.”
