It's the update users have been waiting for.

Say goodbye to embarrassing hashtag fails, as the Instagram gods have finally listened to users and added functionality to allow editing of captions.

The latest app update means that you won’t have to delete and start from scratch after you post a sad emoji instead of a happy one, or post a glowing tribute to a glorious “sunste” or your own amazing home “coking”.

In a blog post announcing the changed, Instagram said: “This has been one of the top requests that we’ve heard from the community, and we’re excited to finally bring it to you today.”

“You’ll find a new “Edit” option in the menu beneath your image. Tap it to edit your caption.”

Instagram are also set on improving the Explore page “by making it faster to find people you want to follow”.

“With this in mind, you’ll see that the Explore icon at the bottom of your screen has changed to a magnifying glass. When you open Explore, you’ll now see two tabs: Photos and People. The Photos tab has not changed. It contains the same scrolling grid of photos and videos you already know. The new People tab highlights interesting accounts for you to discover.”
