If you haven’t yet been victim to workplace robbery, consider yourself lucky.
It’s no easy feat minding our prized possessions in the office, especially when it comes to our precious grub.
Someone brings in a delicious, scrumptious, made-with-love cake to work. They leave it down with a carefully placed note, and strategically position their goods in a hard-to-reach spot in the fridge. Every measure is taken.
Yet, as many of us are all too aware, office bandits continue to lurk in the shadows.
Some crafty baker of an employee over at the BBC brought with them to work a fine-looking cheesecake. However, protect the cake they could not. It was stolen and in response they left this note which has led to a Twitter storm, aptly trending as #cheesecakegate. It’s also kind of hilarious.

The note reads:
“To the scumbag that ate my New York cheese cake. I hope you choke on it!”
We bet they felt the anger with that one.
I love the attention to detail; clarifying it was a New York cheesecake… just in case another variety had been stolen!

I am convinced that people who steal food from fridges at work are sociopaths… or very hungry… or very hungry sociopaths.

This genuinely brightened my day when I went for a cuppa just now.

Still no justice though. It’s not about the cheesecake any more. That ship has sailed. It’s about retribution.

A new twist in the BBC’s #cheescakegate. The replacement for the stolen cheesecake has itself been stolen. pic.twitter.com/8Je6Uq7eKL

We’re all doomed. I learned to eat fast. Survival skills 101. #cheesecakegate.

You need to talk to @dhrutishah about this. It could be a recurrence of the Serial Chocolate Pud Theft.

Hoping this ends in massive newsroom cheesecake showdown a la Bugsy Malone.
