These two kids really are just the sweetest.

Barack and Michelle Obama never make any secret of their love and affection for one another, and, unlike with other politicians, their romance always seems authentic and real.

They never shy away from PDAs and are really comfortable around each other in public – not easy when you consider that they are probably the most famous and most scrutinised couple on the planet.

Their relaxed relationship style was perfectly on show this week in an off-hand moment at a state dinner for the Singapore prime minister.

As the First Couple waited to meet their visitors at the entrance of the White House, Michelle was photographed wiping something away from Barack’s nose – all while he made an adorable squinty face.

Indeed, their relationship is so iconic that it is even the subject of an upcoming Hollywood movie.

Southside With You focuses on the Obamas’ first date in 1989, when they went together to see Spike Lee’s movie Do The Right Thing. At the time, Barack Obama (played in the movie by Parker Sawyers) was a junior law associate at a Chicago firm who was actually a subordinate of lawyer Michelle LaVaughn Robinson (Tika Sumpter).

Despite her hesitations about dating someone who works for her, Michelle agreed to go out with him, and the movie recounts their daylong date that took them from the Art Institute of Chicago, to the movie screening, to the site of their first kiss outside of an ice cream parlour. The rest is history.

Anyway, it was the US president’s 55th birthday yesterday, and he got some really nice messages from his peeps, including his vice president Joe Biden.

But sure enough, it was Michelle who won the day with this beautiful Twitter message to her fella.

You guys!
