People are FREAKING out over these babies wearing high-heels

Amanda Cassidy

My two-year-old is as cute as they come but I often think she would be so much cuter if I stuck a pair of tiny pumps on her little feet…

…is what I would say if I was totally crazy.

But it turns out she is too old for these controversial shoes anyway.

Parents are losing their minds after a company called Wee Pumps advertised “infant crib shoes” for babies aged zero to six months.

Shoes come with patterns like leopard print and zebra print. And if you think your cute chubby baby legs would look much sweeter with black pumps stuck on the ends then get this… their website says:

“Fashion-forward moms love to dress up their little girls with the cutest bows and outfits, and are always looking for the perfect pair of shoes to complete any outfit. Now they’ve found them with Pee Wee Pumps – infant crib shoes with a collapsible heel! They’re just like mom’s favorite pair of pumps only in a miniature size. Pee Wee Pumps will be your daughter’s first fashion statement.”

As someone who struggles to walk in heels at the tender age of 35 (or thereabouts), this makes my feet shiver a little. What worries me slightly more is the babies modelling on their Instagram account – often in provocative poses with pearls and feathers and high-heels. Babies are supposed to represent purity and innocence and heels are, in my opinion, associated with enhancing some elements of female sexuality.

And we are not alone.

The reactions to the high heels in the world of social media have been, er, varied – some people think they are adorable, while others have been posting very negative comments such as “WTF they can’t even walk” and “What in tarnation?”

Where do you stand on the issue?
