The perils of daytime drinking… 6 tips to get you through Paddy’s Day

Niamh Maher

We’ve all done it.

Brunch turns into post-brunch tipples, which turns into pre-dinner drinks, followed by dinner drinks, then just the quick trip to the local. The next thing you know its 4am and one of your falsies is attached to your chin.

So THIS Paddy’s Day, we want to float through the day like sober angels and we’ve decided to round up a few of our best tricks of the trade.

  1. SOAKAGE – first on our list and probably the MOST important. Be sure to eat a big breakfast an even bigger brunch, throw in a lunch too and then dinner. You’ll thank us later and it saves you carrying around a sliced pan all day.
  2. WATER – If you’re starting early you best be hydrated. Try and drink a glass of water in between each alcoholic drink, I know this is easier said than done but it will help you get through the day.
  3. SLOW DOWN – it’s not a race. Paddy’s Day is long! There’s an awful lot going on and you probably have three or four parties to get to, take a break in the middle of the day, have a second lunch or a first dinner. This will help later when you’re dancing the night away.
  4. SPIRIT WARNING – Nobody should drink whiskey before 6pm, let’s just leave it at that.
  5. MAKE PLANS – If there’s one thing that will make you STOP drinking it’s a personal training session with your terrifyingly handsome and strict trainer… back away from the booze.
  6. GO HOME – If all else fails, call it a day, it’s been a good run.
