Steer clear of these dates…

Some people dream of a winter wedding while others would rather get married on the beach in the sun. It is, of course, all down to personal preference but if you want a long and happy marriage, there are some dates you should stay away from of according to a new study.

Economists at the University of Melbourne found that having a wedding on certain dates could result in divorce.

After looking at 1 million couples, the study found that Valentine’s day is the worst day you can get married.

There are some other dates you should stay away from too, such as ‘special number days’. For example the 9th of September 1999 would be 9/9/99 or the 1st of February 2003 which would be 1/2/03.

They may seem like significant dates and easy ones to remember but apparently, they are a big no-go if you want to be together forever.

From the million couples surveyed, by the five-year mark, 11 percent of those who got married on Valentine’s day were divorced, by the 9-year mark 21 percent of couples we divorced.

For the ‘special number’ dates it was slightly less misfortunate with 10 percent of couples splitting up after 5 years and 19 percent after the 9 years.

The researchers suggest that the possible reason behind this is that the couple focus on planning the perfect day on the perfect romantic date more than they do on their life together.

So if you’re planning on getting married, stick to a random day of the year, it might be better for your relationship in the long run.
