This thigh gap jewellery website is not what it seems

Imagine wearing this to Coppers.

A few years ago a harmful trend swept the internet. The thigh gap is exactly as it sounds and while some people posses a gap between their thighs naturally, it became a must-have look for young women everywhere.

This was harmful of course because a large percentage of women have thighs that touch, which is also perfectly natural and healthy.

So you can imagine our horror in the office when we came across a website dedicated to jewellery for your thigh gap. The ridiculous looking pieces feature a chain with wrap around your thighs and dangle between your legs.

The collection is the creation of Soo Kyung Bae, a designer from Singapore. Each piece is made by hand using 18-karat gold plated sterling silver.

While we’ve seen some wacky jewellery over the years, a chain that accentuates something which has caused body issues for women all over the world is probably not the best thing.

”TGap Jewellery designs accessories specifically for thigh gap. We focus on accentuating and celebrating the gap,” the website claims.

As strange and expensive as these items are, there is a very interesting, surprising message behind the products.

If you opt to read the website’s full story, you’ll realise that the whole thing is completely fake and was created to make a valid point.

TGap Jewellery is a fictional company that sells jewelleries designed for thigh gaps. It is launched to catalyze a debate on unrealistic body image social mediaportrays.”

The site goes on to say that women put unhealthy pressure on themselves to achieve a thigh gap which may not even be possible for them.

”The bone structure defines whether you can have a thigh gap: the shape of the pelvic girdle and distancebetween the hipbones.

Most women have narrow hips that even with little fat on their legs, there is no gap between their thighs.”

The website and story behind it originally surfaced in March of last year but as the thigh gap trend still remains worryingly popular, the website continues to stay relevant.
