Earlier this week. the diving pool at the Rio Olympics turned green and everyone was talking about it.
It turned out that there was a pretty standard explanation for the off-putting change in colour – “a proliferation of algae”.

Fast forward a few days and things appear to have worsened with the water now smelling of “fart”.
Although, it had been said that the water was safe for athletes to compete in, the pool was closed for maintenance when people turned up to practice on Friday.
Stephan Feck, who’s due to compete on Monday, took to Facebook to explain just how bad the water smells.
He wrote:
“The moment you want to do some workout and the pool is closed, the whole venue smells like somebody has fart”.
He’s not the only one either as Tom Steinfort, a reporter covering the Games, backed up this claim.
Taking to Twitter, he said:
“The Olympic diving pool has been closed again because of water quality issues…a German diver says “the whole building smells like a fart”.
