The UCD student paper that published a story regarding an alleged “revenge porn” Facebook group, have refused to publish a correction after an investigation found the claims to be unsubstantiated.

The College Tribune originally reported on an alleged Facebook group in which 200 male members were sharing and rating unsolicited images of girls they had slept with.

The claims originated on the anonymous forum Yik Yak, but following an investigation by UCD, were found to be “unsubstantiated hearsay”.

In a statement, UCD said they found no evidence of such a group and could not find one student or any other individual who had seen the page firsthand.

UCD requested that the paper publish a correction and clarification that there was no first-hand evidence to support the existence the group.

However, the paper, which is run independently and not funded by the student’s union, has refused.

According to the Irish Times, a source at the paper said:

“We feel the article outlines the posts were from Yik Yak and stated it was an anonymous platform and that the Tribune had not accessed the page.”
