The creators of WhatsApp were hit with a major backlash in the last week after introducing a new blue tick that let users know when someone had seen their message.
While the company has defended the move, people were not happy with the prospect that they might have to abandon the old 'sorry, just got your message' excuse and now a new feature has been introduced to allow users to disable the blue tick.
At the moment, the feature is only available for Android users who have downloaded the Beta version of the app and can be accessed by going into the Settings menu, then into Privacy and disabling 'Read Receipts'.
The updated version can be downloaded via the WhatsApp website.
