After years of investigating the paranormal, X-Files’ sceptic Scully, actress Gillian Anderson, is take to her own fictitious sci-fi world.
Teaming up with writer Jeff Rovin and American publisher Simon & Schuster, Anderson will be penning a series called the EarthEnd Saga.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Anderson delved into the plot of the first book, A Vision of Fire, which centres on a psychiatrist, Caitlin O’Hara, who treats children who have be traumatised by natural disasters or war.
The psychiatrist meets with a “uniquely troubled” young girl and according to Anderson;
“Over the course of spending time and helping her and investigating the origins of the girl’s trauma, [the psychiatrist] begins to realise that the girl’s behaviour is tied to much greater forces in the universe, and as the story unfolds, she must prevent destruction on a grand scale”.
Referring to her nine years on The X-Files, the actress said that she felt that she had “an ingrained knowledge and rhythm for it.”
“I enjoy writing, but don’t usually allow myself the time, and I don’t think I’d ever think to write something in this genre without the prodding of someone like Jeff. But I realized I had ideas hidden within me for a series and a lead character, in this case, a heroine,” she added to Entertainment Weekly.
“It was very clear to me that I didn’t want to enter into the horror realm. That doesn’t interest me. I also wanted a very strong female character, around my age. I would want to read something like that and I think other women would like to read … It’s been a fantastic experience.”
According to The Guardian, Anderson’s debut novel is out in October.
